Technologies to serve current and emerging needs

Fantech was founded in 1973 by Jack Pirie and Glen Harries. Originally named Air and Noise Equipment (soon changed to Air and Noise Engineering Pty. Ltd.), the men set out to provide customers with the best possible quality products, service and advice. Initially operating from the family home in Melbourne they soon established themselves in more suitable accommodation and set about evolving the business from a manufacturers' representative to introducing their own new products to the market. Early products included the Gamma and Minivent roof units, and Minitube in-line fans.

During the mid 1980's Fantech formed an alliance with Elta Fans UK to manufacture and distribute their state-of-the-art range of Adjustable Pitch Axial fans in Australia and New Zealand. Through ongoing development and innovation this range is still a market leading product today.

The new millennium saw the introduction of the Spanish made Soler and Palau range of fans into Australia and New Zealand. This high quality range of wall/ceiling and in-line mounted fans for the light commercial and residential markets soon became recognised for their performance and reliability. More recent years have seen the development and introduction of the high performance PowerLine Centrifugal in-line series, further extension of the Adjustable Pitch Axial range, and the series of JetVent Impulse fans for car park ventilation.

Today Fantech manufactures and distributes one of the most comprehensive ranges of ventilation products in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. The extensive range is featured in this sixth edition of the Fans by Fantech catalogue and includes our core series of fans, fan controllers, attenuators and ancillaries.

A significant new inclusion is the ECO Range, a group of advanced air management technologies that are designed to improve the control and efficiency of a HVAC system. The ECO Range includes state-of-the-art Rickard electronic and thermal VAV diffusers. These diffusers are designed to enhance the comfort of building occupants while reducing power consumption of the air handling system. The ECO Range also includes Demand Control Ventilation (DCV) systems that combine efficient Electronically Commutated (EC) fans and fully compatible sensors and controllers. The EC fans are available in Duct, Roof and Wall-mounted versions. Most models can be factory pre-configured to suit a range of sensors and application parameters.

Trusted service and expertise

Fantech has supplied ventilation products to many of the major commercial construction projects within Australia and New Zealand. Past projects have included Q1 in Surfers Paradise, the world's tallest residential tower at the time; the sophisticated Crown Casino complex in Melbourne; the Adelaide Convention Centre, voted one of the best convention centres worldwide and Stadium Australia, the site of the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.

More recent projects include the iconic South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute SAHMRI, the world class SkyCity casino in Auckland and the Melbourne Convention Centre that was awarded a six star Green Star environmental rating. The opportunity to be involved in such iconic projects comes from the company's reputation amongst consulting engineers and mechanical contractors. They know Fantech will provide focused expert advice, trusted service and support, and high quality reliable products for their air management requirements.

Committed to continuous innovation

Fantech utilises modern technologies that enables it to optimise the performance and manufacturing process of its products. This has led to the design and development of some of the most reliable, energy efficient and cost effective air movement solutions on the market.

One of these technologies is 3D Rapid Prototyping where a three-dimensional CAD drawing is simulated into a physical product. This capability enables a Fantech product concept to be trialled and assessed for its air flow performance, noise level output, ease of installation and aesthetic appeal before significant investments are made in tooling, production and market launch. This process utilises Fantech's in-house computerised air flow and noise level testing facilities. The facility includes fully calibrated equipment that conforms to standard ISO5801 (air) and BS848 (noise) for fan performance testing.

Another is the development and availability of sophisticated BIM 3-D digital models for all Fantech products. The models include important information such as electrical data and air flow rates that are aiding with the design and planning process of projects at an early stage. Architects, engineers and builders use the models to build a single digital model of a building. This is reviewed well before construction commences and is primarily used to assess possible clashes of components and systems during the building stage, leading to considerable construction cost savings on projects.

Fantech was the first fan manufacturing and distribution company in Australia to achieve QA accreditation. Today all Fantech Group manufacturing sites are accredited under the ISO9001: 2000 quality management system and are working to adopt the new ISO9001: 2014 Standard. This is supported by a strong staff culture of continuous improvement throughout the organisation via a process of empowerment, education and training.

Fantech is a founding member of the Fan Manufacturers Association of Australia and New Zealand. The organisation was established in 2010 and works closely with government agencies in the development of practical regulations relating to the energy performance of air conditioning and ventilation equipment. This work particularly relates to the government endorsed paper 'Improving the Efficiency of Industrial Equipment' and Section J of the Building Code of Australia BCA 2010.

Fantech has been recognised by industry associations and its peers within the industry with the following awards:
